I Want to be a Library Advocate!
I want to help libraries across New York State by signing up as Library Advocate with the New York Library Association (NYLA). NYLA will contact Library Advocates via email with Library Alerts – a request for you to contact your legislators in support of libraries on time-sensitive issues. For more information, see the Advocacy page on NYLA’s web site.
ALA Advocacy University
The American Library Association offers a wide range of resources devoted to library advocacy, including an advocacy clearinghouse and online courses.
NYLA’s Advocacy Tools
The New York Library Association also maintains a list of advocacy resources, many specific to New York State.
Help Wanted: Looking for Library Champions
Thanks to Ove Overmyer for creating a great video highlighting how library systems help libraries deliver cutting edge services to patrons.
Life without Library Systems?
We’ve come to rely so much on library systems to provide anytime, anywhere access to library materials and information, but we sometimes forget how fortunate we are to have them. The Ad Council of Rochester, during a Strategic Roundtable to help promote library systems, asked one question: what would happen if library systems disappeared tomorrow? Click the link above for our answer – Life Without Library Systems written by Debby Emerson and adapted and illustrated by Christine McGinty and Elly Dawson.
Library Stories
People remember stories long after they have forgotten statistics. When doing your advocacy for libraries, tell how libraries have made a difference for your users. Click the link above for some recent examples provided by Edward G. Miner Library at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
