Funding for this project came from a Vitality Grant for Preserving Historical Assets received by the Friends & Foundation of the Rochester Public Library on behalf of the Archive of Black History and Culture, from the Rochester Area Community Foundation.
In this project, we surveyed historical repositories (libraries, archives, museums and historical societies, etc.) throughout Rochester and Monroe County to determine what materials they already have in their collections that document African American organizations, people, and experiences on behalf of the Archive of Black History and Culture. The information gathered in that survey process is presented in the database above, which is searchable. This resource provides a single discovery tool that researchers can use to identify material in collections throughout the community.
