Do you love amusement parks? Ever heard of Freedomland U.S.A., the American-history themed amusement park in the Bronx from the 1960s? Most people haven’t! Together we will explore the inspiration for this forgotten park, how it depicted American history through its attractions, and why it (suspiciously) failed after just five operating seasons.
Presenter Maya Rook is a historian, artist, and writer living in Rochester, NY. She holds an MA in American History from the University at Albany and seeks to better understand the human mind and heart through the practice of history. As a college instructor and public speaker, Maya strives to blend critical insight with humor and empathy in her investigations of the past.
