Tech Camp 2017 – Day 2

Registration is now open for our annual Rochester Librarian Tech Camp.  This FREE event is open to all School, Public, Academic, and Special Librarians!  It will be held August 21 and 22 at Gates Chili High School.  Each day has its own registration link (to attend both dates you will need to register for both dates).

Day 1 Keynote Presenter Bio:

Andrew Coy is a driven problem-solver with experience at the intersection of nonprofit, education, government, and technology. Most recently he served in President Obama’s White House, Office of Science and Technology Policy as the Senior Advisor on the Tech and Innovation team. In this capacity, he led initiatives including National Week of Making, Nation of Makers, the Kid Science Advisors Campaign, supported the Computer Science for All initiative, and was on the organizing team for numerous other efforts including the WH Science Fair, WH Water Summit, WH Frontiers Conference, and South by South Lawn. Through his service, he has directly interacted and actively learned from the interests, ideas, commitments, and collaborations of thousands of different individuals and organizations. His work has led to a variety collaborations, joint efforts, and collective actions by providing design thinking and strategic frameworks for new initiatives as he worked explicitly to advocate for the tech community to become more intentionally inclusive, deliberatively diverse, and strategically situated to grow the number and depth of opportunities for all.

Prior to serving President Obama in the White House, he was the Executive Director of the Digital Harbor Foundation, where he led efforts to save the closed-down South Baltimore Rec Center by reopening it as the Digital Harbor Foundation Tech Center, a youth-centered makerspace located in Baltimore, Maryland that provides after-school program, summer camps, field trips, family make nights, educator training workshops, and numerous other community-making opportunities. In 2017, he launched Initial Velocity (initialvelocity.co) to share best practices from his experiences working on the dozens of initiatives, ventures, projects, and startups he has undertaken or worked on throughout his career, to now help others launch their ideas with his added insight, skill set, understanding, and passion.

Day Two Keynote Presenter Bio:

Jeff Mao joined Common Sense Education in the fall of 2014. He leads Common Sense’s national outreach programs and provides strategic consulting to states and districts on the effective implementation of digital learning programs.

He was a lead author of the State of Utah’s Master Plan: Essential Elements for Technology Powered Learning. Additionally, Jeff is a co-facilitator for the Future Ready Schools Summits and Institutes. Prior to joining Common Sense Education, Jeff served as the Learning Technology Policy Director for the Maine Department of Education. In that role, he provided leadership and education technology policy support to four Commissioners of Education, and he was directly responsible for the Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI). He oversaw all aspects of the program including vision, implementation, policy, professional development, procurement and contract management.

Jeff has keynoted international events sponsored by UNESCO, World Bank, InterAmerica-Development Bank, and the Korean Education and Research Information Service. He served on the Board of Directors of the State Educational Technology Directors Association for six years including two as Chair of the Board. SETDA named him Leader of the Year in 2013.
