Adding digitized collections to NY Heritage creates unique opportunities for research which can lead to unexpected and fruitful collaborations! This episode of Bits & Bytes highlights a recent example of a successful partnership between a class of Siena College undergraduates and the Schenectady County Historical Society. Using the Samuel Jones Family Papers collection on NY Heritage and other materials from the SCHS collections, students in Professor Jenn Dorsey’s Honors NYS History class wrote a biography of Schenectady politician Samuel Jones. Their article has now been published in the Winter 2025 issue of “New York Archives” Magazine. Join SCHS archivist Marietta Carr, Siena Professor Jenn Dorsey, and two of the student authors to discuss their collaborative process, their approach to biography writing, and the results of their work.
Presenters: Marietta Carr, Archivist at Schenectady County Historical Society and Jennifer Dorsey, Professor of History at Siena College
