New Sick Leave Law (ESLN Webinar)

January 13, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Compliance check!

This fall, New York implemented a new law requiring employers with 1-4 employees to offer up to 40 hours a year unpaid sick leave.

Also as part of the new law, employers with over 5 employees must offer paid sick leave–and must not require the disclosure of confidential medical information to use the leave.

And finally, as of January 1, 2021 employers required to follow this law must also allow employees to use sick leave time to take care of relatives.

This new law (labor law Section 196-b) impacts libraries that don’t operate as part of government, and other “private” employers. To ensure our affected members get practical guidance on these changes, we have asked attorney Stephanie (“Cole”)Adams, of the “Ask the Lawyer” service provided by 3R’s, and Holly Nowak, who will be staffing ESLN’s upcoming “Ask the HR Expert” service, to walk you through revising, developing, and following your sick leave policies.

As part of the presentation, Cole and Holly will also discuss when to “check with legal,” and when to “check with HR.” Registrants will be sent a template policy in advance, to check against their own practices.

Free to ESLN Members. Registration is required. Please note that this webinar will be recorded. The recording will be made available on January 28, 2020.

All attendees will receive a certificate of attendance for one hour and 30 minutes of CE credit.

We are committed to offering inclusive, diverse, and equitable services to all of our members. To request specific accommodations, including sign language interpretation, please contact rrlc@rrlc.org at least five business days ahead of the event.

If you have any questions, contact Laura Schiefer or Sheryl Knab (sknab@wnylrc.org).
