According to the National Endowment for the Arts, “Big Read—a partnership with Arts Midwest—broadens our understanding of our world, our neighbors, and ourselves through the power of a shared reading experience. Showcasing a diverse themes, voices, and perspectives, the NEA Big Read aims to inspire meaningful conversations, artistic responses, and new discoveries and connections in each community.”
RIT/NTID will host a Big Read featuring Ilya Kaminsky’s Deaf Republic. Programming explores the themes of language, power, and community in Deaf Republic, spotlights the history of deaf poetry in the United States, and encourages people from diverse backgrounds to experiment with poetry as a means of expressing their own experiences of language, power, and community.
In this webinar, Joan and Jill will discuss how RRLC members can participate in the Big Read: NTID happening in April 2023. This NEA-funded initiative will focus on Ilya Kaminsky’s book of poetry, “Deaf Republic.” NTID is collaborating with Monroe County Library System to offer programming for the entire Rochester community. Join us for this webinar and learn how you and your library can take part in Big Read: NTID!
