RRLC Library of the Year
Libraries are nominated for Library of the Year by community members who love their library. Our 2023 Library of the Year winners are: RRLC Public Library of the Year: Wood Library RRLC School Library of the Year: Dr. Charles T. Lunsford School No. 19 Library |
Wood Library: Wood Library goes above and beyond to enrich our community. Wood Library offers programs such as AARP Tax Assistance, Teen Movie Night, various guest speakers, LGBTQIA programs, countless programs for children, and many many more offerings. Wood Library is a safe space in our community where ever person is made to feel welcome and respected. The staff and culture of this library is beyond any library I’ve ever encountered. Wood Library is the best library and deserves to be recognized as “Library of the Year”. Dr. Charles T. Lunsford School No. 19 Library: I love this library mainly for the person leading it! Ms. L always makes you feel like family when you walk in! Seeing her interaction with the many kids (of all ages) is a sight to see. She is one of the special ones, that the kids love to see when they walk in. They are engaged, interested in their learning, and Ms. L has made a drastic change in the library environment to make it an amazing experience for all. There is no Academic/Special Library of the Year for 2023. |
RRLC 2023 Library All Star
Library All Stars are nominated for providing outstanding service within the RRLC community. Our 2023 Library All Star winners are: Cynthia Dana, Patron Service Manager at Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County Eileen Daly-Boas, Librarian for Philosophy & Education at River Campus Libraries, University of Rochester Jennifer Paxson, Reader’s Discovery Librarian at Webster Public Library Julia Novakovic, Senior Archivist at the Brian Sutton-Smith Library and Archives of Play at The Strong National Museum of Play Dr. Logan Rath, Librarian at Drake Library, SUNY Brockport Michelle Price, Sciences, Health Sciences and Special Collections Librarian at Lavery Library, St. John Fisher University |
Cynthia Dana: Cynthia has dedicated her life to library service. She has been a trailblazer, a leader, and an inspiration. Every day she comes to work and does her best to make sure that the public are treated well and the staff are supported. She is the definition of a Library All Star. |
Eileen Daly-Boas: Eileen is all about ensuring access to all. She focuses on student/user-centered experiences, and observes and asks questions to better understand the students’ needs and user preferences. She is enthusiastic, supportive, responsive, and tailors her approach to fit the uniqueness of each student. Her skill and commitment to support students is not only consistent, but her impact on students is palpable. |
Jennifer Paxson: Jenny gives her all 24/7 to make sure patrons are given the help they need. She provides tech tutor services scheduled and unscheduled! She keeps a smile on her face whether helping folks find and use Libby or figure out how to use one of our hot spots or any of the million other tech questions asked by patrons (and staff). She recently organized a Special Needs Parent Resource Fair that drew over 50 agencies and families from all over the area filling a much-needed service for our patrons. |
Julia Novakovic: Julia has processed, described, and made accessible a world-class archives consisting of papers of play scholars, video game designers, toy and game designers, video game companies, toy and doll companies, and more. She is the lead/lone arranger in ArchivesSpace for the museum and serves on committees and working groups representing small institutions who use ArchivesSpace. In short, there is pretty much nothing that Julia isn’t good at and I want to be her when I grow up! |
Dr. Logan Rath: Logan goes above and beyond with his service to my department (among many others) at SUNY Brockport. He is welcoming, helps problem-solve and brings students into the process of library research. His work is dedicated to serving others and while his work never fully benefits him, he supports and provides guidance as though it does. We are so lucky to have him and he is most certainly worthy of the title “Library All Star”. |
Michelle Price: Michelle is the MOST amazing librarian I have ever worked with. She goes above and beyond for the students, creating tutorials, clarification videos, and going out of her way to get them scheduled for support anytime students need it. She has stepped in and taught classes when needed and is always willing to lend a hand. Michelle is full of energy and fun and makes Library Science exciting to undergraduate students, who otherwise didn’t think much of it. She is literally the BEST! |
Congratulations to all the winners!
Winners will be honored at the RRLC Annual Celebration on June 6th.
